FULL NAME: Honey Perez
NICKNAMES: Do not
AGE/DOB: 16; December 27th
YEAR: Junior
BLOOD STATUS: Halfblood
GENDER/PRONOUNS: She/her or they/them. She toyed with "it" pronouns, but they didn't stick
SEXUALITY: Undefined
HOMETOWN: St. Augustine, FL
APPEARANCE: Clean and utilitarian... mostly. Honey dresses to give the impression of pragmatism and straight lines, but that doesn't happen by accident. She pays more attention to her style than she lets on and picks outfits that evoke her chosen 'lab tech' aesthetic. She also wears super heavy mascara.
HEIGHT: 5' 6"
BUILD: Thin, but unathletic
PB: Camila Mendes
INSPO: Pinterest Honey doesn't actually, literally think that she's a robot. But.
But. It would be disingenuous to pretend that isn't how she imagines herself. It's hard, being a strange and lonely teen who feels isolated from the people around her. Her emotions have never been quite right, she suspects, and the way her brain works is different from everyone else. She doesn't have great evidence of this, other than the persistent feeling of low-level isolation that hangs heavy on her thoughts late at night, but frankly, that's enough for her. She's looking for ways to categorise herself —boxes to put herself in, words she can use— and frankly, the term "robot-kin" may have unironically crossed her mind once or twice. Or three times.
And in some ways, she's not exactly... wrong...
She's not an automaton; in fact, her feelings run strong and deep. But her struggle to express them and to make sense of their many, many complexities has lead her to dismiss them entirely. She chooses to believe they aren't there and tells herself that she acts exclusively with her head, never with her heart. That said, her unflinching honesty isn't an affectation.
It's true, too, that she's introverted and uncomfortable around others, but social anxiety =/= hating people, and the truth is, she wouldn't mind a little company.
Hardworking, driven, and remarkably exacting, Honey is a true perfectionist who seems to thrive with a challenge in front of her. At least, as long as that challenge tickles her fancy. She can bang out code like Basilisk was her first language, crunch numbers with record speed. On the flip side, she can be a little bit prone to maladaptive daydreaming when the topics turn to, well, just about anything else. Her fantasy of choice? Making the perfect android. Human beings are
exciting scary boring and she's sure she can build 'em one better. Someone who gets her in the way that her peers and family don't.
She can't, of course. Not yet. That's why it's just a dream. But she's pretty sure if she just keeps working at it, one day, it'll be a reality. And until then, she's content to spend all her free hours grinding and/or staring quietly into the middle distance with an inscrutable expression on her face.*
* Most people assume that this expression means she's deep in thought, perhaps engaged in some sort of impressive mental math. And sometimes, they're right. But frankly, 2/3rds of the time, it's something a little closer to this.
FUN FACTS:
> Never been kissed
> Unstoppably horny
LANGUAGES: English, JavaScript, and Basilisk (a magical programming language that's fundamental to most modern magirobotics)
HOBBIES: Limited.
> Dissociating
> Ogling
> Being incredibly online
SKILLS: Limited.
> Math - Didn't even flinch when numbers turned imaginary
> Engineering - Hardware and software, although her strengths lie in the latter. She's not a 16-year-old Will Gates (Wizard Bill Gates), but she is pretty damn good for her age
> Making sustained eye-contact while saying something uncomfortable - Sin verguenza, as her grandmother might say
FAMILY: >
Lily Perez: Mother, giant hippie, volunteered to work on a lavender farm. Was on heavy narcotics when she signed Honey's birth certificate (Ray's suggestion had actually been
Miel). Works as a florist and loves it. Really tries to encourage her daughter to express herself in normal ways. This hasn't, uh, worked
>
Raymundo Perez: Father, giant hippie, fell madly in love with the kind of girl who volunteers to work on a lavender farm. Really tries to respect his daughter's robot identity. Works in an office now, doing... something. Honey isn't exactly sure what
>
James Perez: Her stupid, perfect younger brother, age 13
BACKGROUND:Honey thinks her parents hate her, but that couldn't be further from the truth. They don't really understand her, sure, but that's true of most loving parents of teenage girls. Things just happen to be exacerbated in the Perez household because of how different Honey is from the rest of her family.
Lily and Ray are intuitive, empathetic types who met in a whirlwind summer of passion, romance, and patchouli oil. Both wizards, they'd been somewhat adrift after they graduated from Ilvermorny and were in the phase of their lives where they talked a lot about "exploring" and "finding themselves." Lily got work on a farm; Ray was an intern at a small-time organic potions company that made minor magical remedies and draughts of the arnica gel variety. This was where they met. This was where they fell in love. And this was where they pictured their future: growing their own vegetables and raising barefoot little hobgoblins in the dirt.
Unfortunately, that wasn't a super sustainable vision; after a few years of backpacking and intermittent joblessness, their started parents passive-aggressively mailing them newspaper clippings with internship listings. The drop in parental support came hand-in-hand with a drop in financial support, and so, both Ray and Lily settled down. Lily started working at a company that does flower arrangements; Ray went back to the potions company where he interned, but this time, he was hired to do the books. His job relocated to FL; they went with. They settled down.
And they were happy, even if their granola phase never really left them. When it came time to start a family, they imagined their daughter would be just like them. A wild, emotive, outdoorsy thing.
Honey was not. As a kid, she was fussy. As a preteen, she was weird. She had niche interests and weaker-than-average social skills, although it was clear from the get-go that she was incredibly intelligent. Her parents tried to nurture her as best she could: supporting her interests, but encouraging her to try new things. They even pushed to get her enrolled at Vercoer Academie, although, for reasons not clear to them, they were told she fell outside of their district lines. Still, in their most exhausted moments, they would have to admit that the astonishing normalcy of their younger child, James, was a little bit of a relief.
Honey will always be welcome at home, but if she graduates from high school a touch more grounded than when her parents sent her off, they'll be very, very grateful.
WAND: Teak, 12.5", dragon bone
FAMILIAR: A
very fat rat named
ObobCAREER GOALS: Magiroboticist, obviously
PART-TIME JOB: Hard pass
CLASSES: Honey has tried her best to min-max her own schedule, exclusively taking courses in things that interest her and that play to her strengths. She hasn't been entirely successful, but all in all, she's tailored things pretty well. This is lucky; her attention quickly wanders when she's bored and she's bored by most things outside of her very specific interests. The end result? Her grades are either 95%+ or somewhere around the 65-70% mark. It's a 50-50 split.
> Potions - Necessary, but a little messy
> Charms - Necessary, but a little boring
> Transfigurations (H) - Finally, some good fuckin education. Her favourite of the core classes by far
> Artificing (H) - Her performance can be a little hit-or-miss, although she's never below average. Honey is meticulous and exact in her measurements, so she tends to duplicate blueprints with laser-like precision, but while her ability to daydream up exceptional robotics concepts reveals a remarkable well of creativity deep-down, she can sometimes be accused of failing to think outside the box. Also, Honey likes Dr. Ranui a lot
> Hermeticism (H) - Really gets her brain whirring
> Symbology (H) - People think this is hard?
EXTRA-CURRICULARS: > Magirobotics club president — Honey had every intention of ruling this club with an iron fist and turning their win record around, but to be honest, their meetings tend to get a little... out of hand. These kids dream big, and she's found her self much worse at reigning in everyone's more exotic ideas than anticipated
> Arithletes
> That's it. Don't look at her. She's busy
SORTING?: Strange, independent Honey could have easily gone to Deeplurk, but ultimately, the pull of diligence and perfectionism won out; even other Thorntrails have been known to call her a hard-nosed fuddy-duddy behind her back. She's happy in the house of Squatch: pushing herself and working tirelessly to carve out her own, little niche.

TIMEZONE: pst baby

POSITION: Magirobotics Club President
WHY THIS SPOT?: Honey is obsessive about Magirobotics, and as far as she's concerned, it's only right that she's president since she spends more time thinking about the ?sport more than anyone else. Forget last year's president and their "fun-oriented" approach; she's determined to turn this sorry squad into a team of WINNERS, and she's completely committed to the idea of getting them to the top of the charts. At least, in theory. Plus, she secretly wants to do her main teacher crush, Dr. Ranui, proud :(
IDEAS?: Club! Tourney! IC/OOCs! Gotta get these hooligans to nationals! Also, this is all JJ, but I think there should be 3-5 pet robots with names and personalities that just live in the club room and hang out with them. Club members are welcome to come up with these (I'll put it to the group) or else I can roll for traits.
